Active Guardian

Real-Time Insight for Safer, More Efficient Thermal Fluid Systems

Active Guardian is TFS’ digital monitoring and analysis platform, designed to give continuous visibility of thermal fluid system performance, energy use, sustainability impact, and safety.

By combining real-time monitoring with off-line analysis of live system data, Active Guardian moves system management from reactive to informed and proactive. It shows not just what is happening, but why it is happening and what to do next.

Real-Time System Analysis

Active Guardian continuously analyses critical indicators that influence system performance and risk. This includes fluid condition, energy efficiency, operating behaviour, and safety thresholds.

Operators and engineers gain immediate visibility of how energy is being used, where losses occur, and how fluid condition is affecting heat transfer and system longevity.

From Reporting to Analysis

Traditional reporting shows data. Active Guardian turns that data into understanding.

Using a digital shadow approach, Active Guardian mirrors real system behaviour using automated data flows and full system integration. This allows detailed off-line analysis without disrupting live operations.

The focus is not dashboards for their own sake, but insight that supports better decisions.

Performance, Efficiency, and Sustainability

Active Guardian provides clear insight into:

  • Actual energy efficiency performance
  • True energy cost of heat delivery
  • Gaps between actual consumption and system capability
  • CO₂ emissions and Scope 1 and 2 impact
  • Opportunities to improve sustainability without compromising output

By understanding system behaviour over time, improvement plans can be developed that are achievable, measurable, and aligned with operational priorities.

Alerts and Alarms

Safety is built into Active Guardian through continuous monitoring of critical thresholds that influence system integrity and risk.

When performance moves outside defined limits, alerts highlight issues early, allowing intervention before degradation, failure, or unsafe conditions develop. This reduces unplanned downtime and supports compliance and insurance requirements.

Ongoing Improvement, Not One-Off Insight

Active Guardian is not a snapshot in time. It supports continuous improvement by tracking trends, validating changes, and confirming whether interventions deliver real benefits.

The result is improved plant reliability, higher uptime, reduced energy costs, and lower business risk.

  • Improved overall system uptime
  • More consistent process performance and product quality
  • Reduced planned and unplanned system downtime
  • Lower health and safety risk, including fire and explosion hazards
  • Reduced operational and business risk
  • Lower insurance exposure through improved control and monitoring
  • Reduced energy consumption and operating costs

Collaboration & Digital Innovation

Our commitment to innovation is strengthened through collaboration with industry and academia. A Knowledge Transfer Partnership with University of Derby is helping place TFS at the forefront of digital thermal fluid management.

Funded by Innovate UK, this partnership focuses on advanced modelling, monitoring, and data-led decision-making. The outcome is smarter tools that give operators greater visibility, earlier warnings, and more confidence in system performance.
