Restoring Production Following Repeated Magnetic Drive Pump Failures
System Type
Thermal fluid system operating with magnetic drive pumps
The Challenge
The site was experiencing repeated thermal fluid magnetic drive pump failures. This resulted in significant downtime, ongoing repair and replacement costs, and increasing concern around system reliability and safety.
The Solution
TFS supplied alternative mechanical seal pumps to enable continued production within days, minimising production loss.
Additional layers of protection were implemented to improve safety and restore confidence, including:
- Individual pump deluge systems
- Protective shields
- Flammable gas leak detection
- Mechanical seal leak detection
Using the OPC® testing and analysis programme, TFS identified fluid degradation contamination as the root cause of the pump failures. The chemical differences within the contamination were analysed and confirmed.
The contamination was removed while the system remained in operation using flash evaporation, returning the fluid to a stable condition. Once stabilised, the magnetic drive pumps were returned to operation.
The Result
- Root cause identified and rectified
- Fluid restored to stable operating condition
- Normal group standards resumed
- Production and revenue maintained
- Safety standards fully met
