OPC®
Your System ‘OPC®’ Rank
The only ‘real*’ measure for safe, reliable, cost effective performance.
ALL Thermal Fluids Degrade.
All thermal fluid safety and performance data is based on NEW fluid and is generic.
The OPC® value and rank provides a guide for thermal fluid operators to ensure their systems operate as safely and reliably as possible, regardless of the fluid specification and the level of thermal degradation.
The OPC® is the ONLY measurement that system operators can access that provides guidance for individual system design operating at process specific pressure and temperature profiles, regardless of fluid age or composition.
Overview
The Optimum Performance Ceiling (OPC®) is a measure of a thermal fluid as a safe, reliable and cost effective medium.
The OPC® is calculated to identify the maximum operating temperature at which any specific system thermal fluid can operate, under ‘normal turbulent flow conditions’, to deliver the heat energy, consistently, safely and reliably.
The OPC® value changes over time and is system, and application specific.
The ‘OPC®’ Ranking
OPC®1 Stable
Consistent fluid performance across the temperature range.
OPC®2 Conditionally Unstable
The system is operating at a temperature where the byproducts of thermal degradation may impact on the fluid safety, reliability and performance.
OPC®3 Unstable
The products of thermal degradation will have an impact on performance, safety, and reliability with inconsistent operation.
OPC®4 Not Fit for Purpose
The high levels of degradation components have deemed the fluid unacceptable for ongoing safe, reliable and consistent operation.
OPC® Rank Benefits
The first system specific guide for the suitability for use of in-use thermal fluids based on actual fluid condition and operating conditions.
An OPC®1 Rank provides the informs the operators of the following:
- Fluid stability guide across the entire operating range
- Consistent heat transfer performance from the heat generator as well as production end user
- Consistent turbulent flow conditions
- Consistent pressure profile
- Highest levels of reliability
- Highest levels of safety
- Reduced likelihood of pump failure
- Reduced likelihood of system integrity failure
- Less unplanned downtime
- Less maintenance costs
* the application of system operating parameters to actual used fluid test characteristics
