Dynamic Thermal Filtration

Applying our in-depth knowledge of the changes in chemistry during fluid degradation, to recover fluids on-line to their original specification.

Thermal Fluid Solutions are market leaders, providing mobile and on-line ‘light end’ removal through our range of flashpoint recovery skids. We have also successfully applied this technology for the removal of water at a molecular level for cryogenic operations found in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Using this technology for the removal of contamination and heavy degradation gives TFS the ability to filter ‘heavy ends’ and solids that traditional filtration simply cannot do.

New, innovative filtration methodology

By mimicking the conditions required to change the state of the fluids between solid, liquid and gaseous state Thermal Fluid Solutions (TFS) can now remove the longer, heavier chemistry typically associated with solids, sludges and discolouration while operates continue to run their plants.

Only with an understanding of the chemistry changes that occur can we successfully remove fractions that simply do not exist at operating temperatures and with the changes in saturation that occurs with temperature change we can accelerate this process further.

The challenge

Naturally, thermal fluids degrade over time, creating by-products that impact a system’s performance. Systematic fluid testing and analysis helps identify the degree to which degradation has occurred, prompting mitigating actions including reactive filtration to protect the integrity of the thermal fluid.

Depending on how often this process is undertaken, the gap between tests means that some problems will have longer to develop than others. Dynamic Thermal Filtration technology ensures the healthy condition of thermal fluids by preventing the build-up of solids, carbons, sludges, and high boilers, along with recovering fluids online to their original specification.

How does it work?

The ‘high-boilers’ or solids saturation characteristics of thermal fluids is temperature dependent. Our new Dynamic Thermal Filtration technology changes fluid temperatures within the process to maximise filtration efficacy; removing solid particles by matching the filtration temperature depending on the saturation characteristics of the contaminant, solid or high boiler and not the host fluid, delivering results that are impossible at operational temperatures where these fluid components are either held in suspension or in solution.

Benefits

  • Proactive and continual management of thermal fluids.
  • Remove solids, carbons, sludges, and high boilers to ensure optimum system performance.
  • Reduced maintenance costs.
  • Improved safety.
  • No disruption to operations.

Features

Autonomy
A stand-alone system, it operates as a side stream to your process.

Control
It is supplied complete with computer-controlled secondary circuit and cooling to meet the temperatures required for optimum separation.

Information
HMI control provides users with the status of the operation.

Safety
The system is fully rated and protected to exceed thermal fluid design minimums.

Performance

The technology for the separation of high boilers and fluid against temperature has been well proven and documented. Trials using fluids with known levels of high boilers in saturation have been conclusive, even when the solids are tested to be < 6 micron when out of solution. Our new Dynamic Thermal Filter System is suitable for systems >600 Litres. The improvements of system performance are immediate.
